Edward Wang, Ph.D.

Edward Wang has been a member of the faculty at Stanford University and the University of California San Diego.

His primary research concerns point-of-need medical technologies, which bring medical-grade measurement to wherever health questions arise. He has also worked in sensor development, energy monitoring, machine learning, and education research. His work has appeared in leading journals and conferences, including Nature Portfolio journals, NeurIPS, and ACM and IEEE venues. He has been recognized by the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Inventors, and is a recipient of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Trailblazer Award. He is also the founder and CEO of Billion Labs Inc.

Professor Wang founded the Wang Institute for Emerging Scholars to give a small number of exceptional students the kind of close, sustained apprenticeship that is usually reserved for doctoral training. Each scholar works directly with him on truly unique and original independent projects, held to the same standards.

The academic family

Students mentored by Professor Wang at the institutions where he has served on the faculty have gone on to Harvard, MIT, Stanford, the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell, Duke, Carnegie Mellon, Johns Hopkins, the University of Michigan, and many other institutions, as students and later even as faculty. His mentees join an academic family that stays connected for years after the direct mentorship ends: a community that continues to support one another long after any single project is done.
